Country superstar Shania Twain and her mega-producer husband, Robert "Mutt" Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage, according to Twain's spokesperson at Universal Music Group Nashville.
"This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time," the label said.
The couple have a son, Eja D'Angelo (pronounced "Asia") who was born on Aug. 12, 2001. Twain is 42 and the intensely private Lange is 59.
Twain has sold 33.6 million albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. While Lange did not produce her first Mercury record in 1993, he has produced everything since, and the couple have collaborated on virtually all of Twain's hits.
The label would not comment on whether or not Lange will be involved in Twain's next project, which is expected next year.
With 15.5 million, Twain's "Come on Over" is the biggest selling album in the U.S. since Nielsen SoundScan started in 1991.
Lange has also produced albums for Def Leppard, AC/DC, Foreigner and Bryan Adams, among others.
T-Pain's status as urban music's most frequent collaborator helped him nab a leading five BET Award nominations.
Kanye West and Keyshia Cole received three nominations, while Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and newcomer Flo Rida received a pair each. The BET Awards will be presented June 24 in Los Angeles.
While T-Pain has his own hits, including the chart-topper "Buy U a Drank," the singer and his electronically manipulated voice are often found on other people's songs. He received nominations for best collaboration for his work with Chris Brown ("Kiss Kiss"), West ("Good Life") and Flo Rida ("Low"), while he was also nominated twice in the video of the year category.
"T-Pain is everywhere," BET Executive Vice President Stephen Hill told the Associated Press. "He's got five nominations, none of them for his own work."
"He's had a great year; he's introduced a new element," Hill said, referring to T-Pain's vocoder-assisted vocals that have been replicated by other artists such as Snoop Dogg.
While the nominees include many hitmakers, Hill said the awards also celebrate those who aren't yet in the mainstream,...
Radiohead's rain-drenched May 11 sellout at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Va., has resulted in an Internet-driven firestorm, with message boards and the blogosphere lighting up amid fan frustration.
The D.C. market was faced with monsoon-like conditions around the show, with an estimated four inches of rain and flooding forcing road closures and maddening traffic conditions. Apparently a significant number of fans -- hundreds or thousands, depending on who is estimating -- were extremely late or unable to get into the show for a variety of reasons.
As such, many fans have taken to the Internet to vent their dissatisfaction, with neither the venue, the promoter nor the band being spared. One area blogger offers this headline: "Radiohead @ Nissan: You Both Suck."
Radiohead's Web site offers the following comment: "Due to Sunday night's torrential rain storm and consequential multiple road closures, many fans were unable to reach the Nissan Pavilion. While acknowledging a lack of control over the ensuing flooding and detours, the members of Radiohead are nevertheless disappointed regarding this turn of events. For further inquiries,...
Attorneys and the judge are questioning more jurors as they work to seat a panel in R&B singer R. Kelly's child pornography trial.
Jury selection resumed today (May 15) after no jurors were picked Wednesday.
Eight jurors have been chosen so far. Sixteen, including four alternates, will be selected in all. The judge has told some jurors there was a chance they could be sequestered at some stage in the trial.
Kelly is accused of videotaping himself having sex with a girl as young as 13. The Grammy-winning artist has pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Syesha Mercado's second, third and fourth chances caught up with her tonight (May 14) as the 21-year-old Florida native was dismissed from the "American Idol" finals. Young frontrunner David Archuleta and Midwest native David Cook move on to the last round, to take place next Tuesday.
Though visually stunning, Mercado was unable to cull enough votes from her performances last night of Peggy Lee's "Fever" (her choice), "Hit Me Up" from the animated film "Happy Feet" (producers' choice) and Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" (Randy Jackson's selection). For the last few shows, Mercado was consistently relegated to the bottom ranks.
Plenty of tears flowed throughout the show, but not just from the departure; the contestants were featured returning to their respective hometowns, with Cook riding into Blue Springs, Mo., Archuleta into Murray, Utah, and Mercado to Sarasota, Fla.
Former AI crown-winner Fantasia Barrino was also featured performing a very spirited "Bore Me"
The Davids will be facing off next Tuesday performing multiple songs, with the winner to be crowned the next night. Last night, Archuleta, who has...
Rihanna will make a near-record rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 tomorrow (May 14) with "Take a Bow," which blasts 53-1. Opening-week digital downloads (267,000) are the reason for the sudden surge, as the track begins at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs.
The song's bump is the second-best leap to No. 1 in Hot 100 history, trailing only Maroon 5's 64-1 jump with "Makes Me Wonder" last May. Coincidentally, Rihanna is featured on the band's "If I Never See Your Face Again" which will debut tomorrow at No. 57.
With the lofty digital take, Rihanna now owns two of the top three opening week download tallies in chart history. Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" set the mark with 286,000 last month, surpassing the 277,000 moved by Rihanna's "Umbrella" when it debuted in the June 9, 2007 issue.
"Take a Bow" is one of four new songs on an expanded CD/DVD edition of Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" album, due June 17 via Def Jam.
Mariah Carey says Leona Lewis doesn't sound like her.
The chart-topping singer insists she "didn't really hear any similarity" between Leona's music and her own, and claims there will never be a "new" Mariah.
She said: "Honestly, there has been so many, 'This is the new her,' and I'm like, 'OK, show me the new her. Can she come and work for me and be my double?' "
"And I'm not particular talking about this girl Leona, because I only heard her once and I didn't really hear a true similarity, particularly in the style of music.
"It is what it is and critics have compared me to so many people who are not really singers, and they're certainly not writers."
Mariah says if she spent her time worrying about her chart rivals it would depress her.
She added to the Observer Music Monthly magazine: "If I was to focus on the comparisons and really dwell on that, it would bring me down so I just try to pray that I lose the sprit of jealousy, it's not a good one - envy is a really powerful thing."
Leona's debut LP 'Spirit' hit the number one spot in America last week.
Evanescence singer Amy Lee has denied rumours that she will be collaborating with Metallica on a song for the legendary heavy metal band's forthcoming ninth studio album.
Reports involving Lee and Metallica have surfaced on the Internet also indicating that she will appear on a new version of the band's classic track "Fade to Black" and that she will be featured on a brand new Metallica song called "Last Life". However Amy has denied both rumours.
"I am NOT going to be collaborating with METALICA," Lee wrote in an online posting. "I have absolutely no idea where this rumor came from, but it is not true."

The gentle tones of singer songwriter James Blunt are in for an overall. Blunt has teamed up with hardcore French rapper MC Sinik for a song.
MC Sinik has a hit on his hands in France with Blunt's 'I'll Take Everything'.
The French "Eminem" has the right credentials for his gangsta style. He has done time in prison and is now one of France's biggest rap acts.
MC Sinik has used Blunt's song and turned it into his own 'Je Realise'. Think what Eminem did with Dido on 'Stan'.
The song is currently the number 9 hit on the French singles chart.
